I have been oil painting landscapes on or off for the last ten years. I paint mostly from life and then try and create a studio painting from those reference sketches.
I never received a formal arts education. I was inspired by Bob Ross (yes, the happy tree guy – “Hey, if he can do a painting in a half an hour, maybe I can do one in an hour”). I took some courses through Continuing Ed. (mostly with Susan Falk) and tried many took as many workshops (Gaye Adams, Mike Svob) that I could get my hands on. I was able to join a painting group with Murray Phillips, and learned through the process of teaching and through the critiques that we would all apply to each other.
Read a ton, and am really attracted by the works of Carl Rungus, A.Y. Jackson, Group of Seven, and Peter & Catharine Whyte.
I currently live in Abbotsford, BC with my wife, Brenna, and our dog Champ. We have four adult children.
I do sell my painting, and you can contact me if you are interested in them.
